Financial Aid
YMUNT is committed to accessibility — if conference fees pose a financial difficulty for individual delegates or delegations, we strongly encourage applying for financial aid.
Our application form is available through our registration platform. Individuals or delegations wishing to attend YMUNT and apply for financial aid should apply using the “Financial Aid” tab on the registration platform. Please fill this out as soon as possible as financial aid is allocated by financial need on a rolling basis until January 31st, 2025.
For financial aid questions, please contact our Under-Secretary-Generals of Delegations at tw.delegations@ymunt.org (for Taiwan delegations, Jacob Liao) or intl.delegations@ymunt.org (for international delegations, Taee Chi).

Required:
The number of delegates and advisors requesting fee waivers
A short essay describing why you want to attend Yale Model United Nations Taiwan XI and what you expect to gain from it (max 300 words).
A short explanation for why you believe you are eligible for financial aid. All information will be kept strictly confidential (max 300 words).
Optional:
A short letter of recommendation (between half a page and one page) from the school principal, vice principal, or Model UN Program advisor. The referee is asked to elaborate on their understanding of the delegation’s financial circumstances as well as qualifications for attending YMUNT.
If you would like to be considered for additional aid beyond fee waivers (such as food, accommodations, and local transportation but NOT including international flights), you must specify the total amount of additional aid you are requesting in USD as well as a thorough breakdown of what this aid will be going towards.
Proof of financial need, such as tax returns of employer income statements showing income and taxes paid, with translations into English or Chinese. All information will be kept strictly confidential.

Our financial aid application is open until January 31st, 2025.
Financial aid for our conference is allocated on a rolling basis—meaning that though we are never able to guarantee financial aid, applying earlier definitely increases the chance of aid being granted. We strongly encourage all delegations to submit their applications sooner rather than later to maximize their opportunity. The earlier a financial aid application is turned in, the better positioned your delegation is for consideration as funds are allocated.

In evaluating financial aid applications, YMUNT considers each delegation's personal background, the impact that assistance would have on their participation, and the specifics of their financial requests.
Financial assistance is provided on the basis of demonstrated need, and the more specific the information delegates can provide, the more likely they are to receive aid. We strongly encourage delegations to be as specific as possible when describing aid requirements (e.g. making sure to mention delegate count, accommodation requirements, transportation types, etc.) in the application.
Our financial aid program is need-based, and not merit-based. While the financial aid application should be thorough and clear, please rest assured that academic standards, student accomplishments, or the eloquence of writing are not being considered when determining who receives aid. Any delegate who applies for financial aid will be sincerely considered solely on account of the above criteria.
-
At a basic level, all recipients for financial aid will have their delegate and advisor registration fees waived. Additional aid is evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and thus we strongly encourage delegations to be as specific as possible when describing aid requirements (e.g. making sure to mention delegate count, accommodation requirements, transportation types, etc.) in the application.
Additional aid is limited to the costs of lodgings and accommodations, meals, and local transportation. We are unable to provide aid for international flights.
Additional aid will be distributed through a reimbursement in the form of a check or wire transfer from the Treasury of the Yale International Relations Association (YIRA).

If you are an advisor filling out the financial aid application for multiple delegates, we recommend that you give your delegates the short answers questions to write together. These include the questions on why YMUNT and why your delegates believe they are eligible for financial aid.
You may write the letter of recommendation on behalf of all of your delegates applying for financial aid. If your delegates are applying for additional aid, you should include the breakdown of ALL TOTAL costs your delegates are applying for aid for.
Attaching documentation of financial burden is optional and up to your discretion. If you do not feel comfortable asking for and submitting these documents on behalf of your students, you can have them email documentation to secgen@ymunt.org. Otherwise, not attaching proof of financial status will not hurt your students’ chances of receiving aid.
